as new old or reproduction
Re: as new old or reproduction
Hi Steven, that's a great result. Someone has looked after these carefully?

Hi Numi,
I made comment to my wife that you had inicated that they were original which gave me encouragement.I then explained to her your super detective skills and status, when i told her they were original she said "so the detective was right" and i'm glad you were.
cheers steven

Did you buy 60 boxes for $34? That's a bout 57 cents each. Maybe I misread something.
My repro supplier has his web address on his boxes - inside flap - and still stamps them "repro".
That white cardboard on the end flap has a suspicious 21st century hue to it - appears to have been stored alongside the Mona Lisa to have withstood time so well. It looks like my repros.
I am saying this from the web photo only.
My genuine boxes have the lighter, softer feel - and smell - someone else noted that my newly minted repro boxes don't have. Also the inside yellowing.
Anyway, I hope you got what you want and your happy!

Steven,
I hate to say this - but the flaps look much too white to me. Actually they should have a more creamish white color.
Maybe it is because the use of a flash.....
But the No. 18 box shows rounded corners of the end flap, which definitely is not a good sign!

There are a variety of die-cuts,boards and printing.Perhaps others could check theirs.
Heres one from my collection that has the exact same characteristics of 3x boxes shown by Steven. The solid rectangle is missing on the other end-flap.

Hi all, I have no doubt the boxes are all genuine(for clarity I purchased the four boxes as pictured) the boxes smell right ,I can see no pixilation when viewed with my loop, the insides are consistent with all my other boxes from that period. The #18 box does appear to be more white on the end tab and is missing the caterpillar permission writing, otherwise it's extremely consistent with it's brother as shown.

Your second set of photos showing internal yellowing and "weathering" appear more consistent with the genuine article.
Never knew about the Caterpillar licensing note - did this happen on any other boxes?
Friend is restoring an Austin Healey - full rotisserie rebuild - eight year project, no expense spared. Don't think anyone will point at it, "ooh, it's not the way it left the factory."
Enjoy.
