In an earlier post I promised to show my hand refinished Y-10, I offered to Lesney with the suggestion they make the model in this form, as a 'Limited Edition' to celebrate something at Rolls-Royce, can not quite remember now, may have been 75 Years of car production. They were very kind and said they would pass it onto their sales department. I did not send them this actual model, just a colour photo and description about it, so this is the only one I painted.

Sadly nothing came of it, but I kept the letter they sent back to me, will try and find it for a later posting, not able to get it at the moment.

the only y10 I have is this one identified by yys4bob as a red plastics colour trial the seats are loose and not a good fit but are as found along with other unused castings ( viewtopic.php?f=11&t=2344 ) found at a fleemarket

Reg, please read this carefully...

Having looked at the red seats on your Y-10 above, I can see little 'Sprue' break-off points on the very top edges on both of them. These must be fake seats because in all my years of collecting this model, not one of them have seats like yours, with the break-off point on the top edge. I am going to ask you now for even closer pictures of just that top section of both seats, could you do that for me.

Also noticed the back seat in your example is not the correct one, it does not have the same shape as the one in "Bob's" example
Look at how clean and tidy the top of the seats are, on "Bob's" example, shown below.

as the seats are loose I was in no doubt that they weren't original as you say they are not the same as Bobs ,I would think that this was taken incomplete from the factory and a set of random seats added later ,only the red grill being fixed in place could make this a trial model the context in which I found it leads me to believe that someone was helping themselves to the parts bin and assembling models at home

Thank's Reg, those red seats are now clearly not the same as proper Y-10 seats, not sure without checking other 'Yesteryears' what they should be fitted into, but the fact they were both glued into the body helps with this model not being 100% original. Even if the seats were quickly picked up out of the parts bin, the person would have noticed they were the wrong ones simply by touch with the process of offering them into the body.

To give credence to the model, yes it could still be a trial model (red grille centre helping here), in as much as trying a new seat colour, because from what can be seen in your photos, the rest of the model looks normal and all they used to do is give a box, or plastic hopper of the new coloured seats to the operator and tell them to..."now fit these"...so if these red seats were in a hopper, at a work station, the operator is very likely going to notice they are different, because they are not going to fit into the body properly against all the seat components they have been fitting since their shift began that day!

Having said all that, keep the model and seats anyway and bring them to our next toy fair, I would still like to see it in the hand.

This went to a Belgian collection, and has since moved again, but I don't know where to. Not your handiwork Kevin, is it? Was listed as a colour trial.

No, it's not my handywork Bob, and I don't like the look of the axle-ends in those rims, look like they are just pushed on without any means of the wheels falling off!

...and what are those seats in the model next to it on the same shelf!!!

Annoyingly I don't have a close up of this area of the cabinet. There were some cracking pieces in the collection, but a lot of dodgy stuff as well in my opinion. I know where some of the better pieces ended up, and they were spread around the globe.
