It is a superb model despite the method of construction and it's early introduction into the range in February 1959. Had it been introduced after 1963, it would have benefited from a nice pair of 'Chrome' plated plastic bumpers and grille. These first 'SPOT-ON' models were designed by Peter Allen who later went on to work for 'AIRFIX' and designed their magnificent 1/12th scale 'Blower' Bentley plastic kit.
The model is also unique by being based on a rare car in real-life with only 11 examples made to the same design as the model, with all aluminium panels and opposingly hung doors. Bentley called it a 'Lightweight' saloon and launched the car on the H J Mulliner stand at the 1956 Earls Court motor show in London.

Hi Fred,
Some great stuff there, I had the Triang Architects (?) building set as a kid, amazing, wish I still had it. Good to see you got a Maggi soups A40 too, mine's a bit more battered than yours.

I had / have a Magicar Silver Cloud in pink but it is missing the grille, I suspect it was in with a lot of stuff that got stolen but it could be at Debbies place, If it ever comes to light I will let you know.

The last few posts have just vanished from my screen - I hope I'm not going mad!
EDIT - Everything is back to normal now - sanity has prevailed!
I've just checked, and the correct spelling should be Arkitex. If you have enough of the stuff you can build huge towers, as was shown in that diorama at Sandown last year.

Great comparison photos - the Austin 1800 by Spot On looks to be the same 1/43 as the dinky and the Vanguard but other older castings show clear scale difference. My favourite pic must be the minivans - all 3 windscreens are a different shape like 3 different smiles - Corgi looks closest to 1:1 for my money
