Ok Idris, I will check it and reply prompt but sorry only on tuesday.
Have a nice weekend! Peter
RW55 SPW
Re: RW55 SPW
The decals on models stored in damp places stay pretty nice Mick if not 'played with' like this one, while the axles do get the surface rust this model shows. The body looks right to me, matching the base as for it's amount of play wear. Even though the rear shows enough of a factory rivet, the front rivet looks like it was ground to intentionally remove the base, not any kind of factory error. Please just check the casting details to verify the body does not have any ridges over the three wheels, (as has already been suggested) and enjoy those rare SPW that I have never found or had on one of these. Welcome to the Forum Ergomatic, and Thanks for sharing your 'rare' variation with us........kwakers

Re: RW55 SPW
Oops, I completely missed the rivets, I saw the axle ends and thought it was ok.

So did I Nick, don't feel alone! The original Rare Silver Plastic Wheels with factory axle riveting completely blinded us both on this one. Body rivets, what Body rivets?? LOL kwakers
Re: RW55 SPW
Good morning,
I checked the car, it is correctly code 5 on Nick's variation guide ( 9x24 SPW, 4x smooth wheelwells and rear bumper with trim ), the base is fix and I didn't see any gluing.
If you have any question(s), please ask and then vote, genuine or not?
Thanks for your help and let's see my new topic with RW51c!
Have a nice day!

Hi Ergomatic
(what a cool name) I think this model is genuine. Why swop base with another playworn body? makes no sence. Be happy for this one.

Re: RW55 SPW
I would say that it is a genuine base/body combination (with significant playwear damage!).Ergomatic wrote:I checked the car, it is correctly code 5 on Nick's variation guide ( 9x24 SPW, 4x smooth wheelwells and rear bumper with trim ), the base is fix and I didn't see any gluing.
Re: RW55 SPW
Nick and I fell in love with those rare SPW with good axle riveting, so there was never any question of it's authenticity in either of our minds I am sure. Very, Very nice, just the way we usually find these Genuine rarest Lesney Toys, Well Loved. Why is it I still think of a Caravan when I make that statement??.....kwakers
Re: RW55 SPW
Wheel rivets look fine but car facing left, paintwork seems to be 'bubbling' up on front fender. Either damp or reaction to something in storage and looks like base is affected in the same way. If this is a pairing with a better body then what did the previous one look like as neither base or body look good to me in that condition. I've seen rivets like this before but usually only one which comes loose not both.
Re: RW55 SPW
This SPW specimen looks original and shows consistent play-wear with consistent patchy corrosion on the casting & base from prolonged dampy storage or exposed to vapours of toxic substances/chemicals.These axles with rust is commonplace and acceptable and the ends look good.
We all are aware that the bases tend to loosen up on these Fairlanes mainly at the rear and its clearly apparent on this specimen.Ive seen numerous/various rivetting patterns/methods on these Fairlane bases. However, this specimen shows that someone had tried to tighten these base stems/rivets with a punch-type tool with apparent tampering/depressions clearly visible. This was a toy in the eyes of a kid and he knew no better (if he was the culprit).
These SPW Police Fairlanes are one of the rarest 1:75's.Finding them in nMint-Mint condition is near impossible.Your specimen is a keeper in my books for any collection until an upgrade becomes possible. However if u do decide to part with it on a trade/sell-off then the wise and honest move would be to notify the intended recipient of this tampering.
Well done Ergomatic and do enjoy your model.
