its just the lower part of the magnifier light i have attached to the end of my table
Please use a web hosting site (like photobucket) to store pictures so you can post them here, using attachments makes it hard to view the pictures when you have to scroll to see them. Seeing comparisons of models is hard to see with attachments too.

Thank's for the description, lets have a little peek at it, from what can be seen in your various pictures looks like it must be an industrial grade magnifier, or a precious antique!

a guy i used to work with had this and new i was into collecting and at that time we worked together i was customizing and restoring cars...so he wasnt using it so he gave it to me...its cheap but works to light up my models for pics and the mag and light worked well to check details on models as my eyes arent what they used to be

Ah, see what you mean by a magnifier. Amazing what images can be conjured up in the mind when you only see a glimpse of something.
Thank you Brad for taking the time to photograph it for me, every time I looked at your models, this big black thing drew my attention, I can stop worrying now and enjoy your models even more, cheers,
