I have just now started the tag system with string tags that has been influenced by Brad Pitiful's pictures of his models. That is a very slow process, just like cataloging, so maybe in five years I may have that done. kwakers

I really like this idea but it is going to be a lot of work. I decided to just use the smallest tags I could find and figure out a numbering system. But it will include some kind of master note book that keeps the info and location of the car. I like the idea of using a file card system because I can start any where with any toy and just file additions around it.

My tags are 1 inch by 1 1/2 inch or 28X 37 mm. They hide nicely under the model and hold 'universal' coding information which is pertinent to that particular model such as with rear bumper/ without, 5 line base, color specifics, or any casting features that distinguish it. I do use a Stannard Code number or 'non coded' designation, but all features to code by Nick's listings are there also.
A friend of mine who is a member here has started a photo listing on his 'smart phone(?)'. That gives a picture of/ or particular features of each model, and can be shared with a collector nearby. Kind of neat, I may try that in 10 years......
Any cataloging is better than nothing, but all of this takes time. Do what makes you happy, not what others feel you need to do around your collection. (Unless it is your spouse, then you may have to hide your joys a bit.......) kwakers

I have started and ran away from a couple attempts at cataloging. However, cloud storage is the way I would go if I ever get to the point of getting it done. I have my store inventory on it and I can check my inventory anywhere using my phone. It would be perfect in the event of a swap meet, flea market etc and it is just a regular excel type document.

I do keep a lot of pictures on my phone. When I buy collections or lots I take pics to keep track of them. Part of the reason I do that is I like knowing which lot which car came from.

I do not have a display as such.All my models in my tiny collection are boxed and stored.My virtual catalogue cum collection in a folder is very simple and very user friendly (meaning myself & Dad only...lol) at the click of the mouse.Its a quick reference, inspection & admiration without any dire enviromental exposure & handling.
I suppose we all have our different collecting habits and ways to admire,display and/or preserve our models.

Well Numi that would definitely take up less space. My wife would be thrilled if I did that. She threatened to divorce me
If I brought home another display case. Even though I have my own corner of the basement for them.
I talked to a collector the other day who said he takes pictures of all his Diecast then sells them. Says for him it is good enough knowing that he had it at one point but doesn't have to store them. Also he can sell them and pass them on to other people to enjoy. Not sure how I feel about that way if collecting. But admire his way of thinking. II guess.
I enjoy displaying mine too much to do that. Even though I am the only one that sees them.

Thanks MM,it makes life a lot simpler without any any fear of these models being touched,damaged or stolen by visitors (kids mainly) and also saves u embarrassing moments with some kids' parents when kids have to see them and then cry about having to play with them or demand to take them away.I have other important issues to contend with daily.
Yeah,im having a good laugh MM and enjoying it too!!
Maybe just being modest to say the least.
