I've had 2nd chance offers a few times. Sellers often have more than one example of an item, and this is an easy way to shift them I suppose. I've known the winner of the auctions on a couple of occasions, and have asked them if they completed the deal. On both occasions they had completed satisfactorily, and so did I on the 2nd chance offers for my underbidder price.

I agree, but you are justified in being suspiscious when you are bidding on a rare variation and the seller offers a second chance offer. Is he really saying that he just happened to have 2 identical examples of that rare variant lying about?

If your Seller is from Virginia Alexdundee, he is a Great Seller that Tinman and I can vouch for. He is as straight as they come and a good man.
When there are a large number of models selling as happened yesterday afternoon/ night, another possibility is that a Buyer's snipes were too successful, and the Buyer simply surpassed his 'Toy Budget'. I know it sounds very stupid, but I have also bought second chance offers when a Seller told me of working with a Buyer who overspent with him. Not everyone uses credit for their purchases, I am one who doesn't. kwakers

Then it must be one of John McCloskey's auctions. If so, I do trust him and he's a really decent man. Alex, if the model is one you want, I would have no hesitation on accepting his offer.

If there are no hints as to who the Seller was/ is, how can we help you? How can you still call this Seller's second chance offer a CON???
I am now baffled that you have ignored all of our reasons for second chance offers within 24 hours, and I am now sorry I saw and even bothered answering this Post. When Forum members take their time to answer your questions with facts and experiences about their own E Bay transactions, it normally leads to a discussion that helps others on the Forum understand how E Bay can work for us in advancing our collections. This discussion had one point...... all E Bay second chance offers are CONS, and that is not anywhere near the truth. Please study the reasons given above, there are many others we haven't covered here. Sorry we were of no help to you Alex.............kwakers

I am afraid my Post sounded a bit angry yesterday Alex, and I apologize if I have offended you. I owe a lot of my present Lesney success to E Bay vendors, some of them members here. In having to replace over 350 stolen variations, I have worked with many E Bay Sellers from all over the world. These are hard working people who many times have gone in and out of selling purely because of the hard tedious work involved in Lesney listings, and E Bay's CRAP limiting their success. I have bought many second chance offers without question, and as Tinman stated above, they were for what I felt was my reasonable top bid, or plus maybe one dollar to equal the high bid.
Some of these E Bay vendors have become good internet friends of mine over the last seven years who are just trying to feed their families and enjoy a hobby sideline. I am afraid the word 'con' in your post above reflected poorly on literally hundreds of sometimes flawed, but honest Sellers that have helped me along on E Bay.
If I were to list the same Jaguar you bought, I have 2 other spares of it to send as second chance offers after my listing ended. Other dealers may have 5 or more spares to offer I am sure, and I am also sure you will enjoy the one you bought at YOUR price. Please send a note to the Seller after it arrives Thanking him for the model, then ask about his second chance offer. You may be surprised by his answer and buy many more Lesneys from him......
