Pre War V Post war Dinky Toys.

That sounds like a good idea Nick. Whoever does go, it might be worth getting a good quantity of those re-painted Dinky Toys and worry about refurbishment at a later date, as selling them in their re-painted form is helping to keep the price down, but a customer could buy several and make a bigger saving on the price. I am currently not in a position to get to Brentwood or else I would have a punt myself, sounds like there could be some nice models waiting to be discovered under that paint.

I was at the Brentwood toyfair yesterday. There were all the usual playworn Dinkys but several of the dealers also had quite a few that had been repainted and I'm pretty sure they all came from the same collection as the commercials were all painted yellow, The cars were all different colours. But looking at some of them I did notice the underneath of the bumpers and running boards were not painted properly and the original paint could be seen and there was little evidence of any playwear, These were all models from the 40's and 50's and I'm sure some of them could be recovered by removing the overpainting by a soaking them in brake fluid, The cars were all priced at under £10 each so if you live in the Brentwood area it just might be worth your while going to the next Brentwood fair and checking them out.

A small add on to Nicks post I have seen this trader at Sandown too as Nick said quite a few to choose from and all the commercials in yellow so they will stand out from the crowd... Go hunting boys

Hi all,

The very first Dinky Toys were copied from American Tootsietoys, the Dinky 24 Series were based on the TT Graham series of cars, and are virtually identical.
The Dinky 28/1 van of 1933 was based on the TT 6-06 van of the late 1920's, at Bridgnorth last Monday I was lucky to pick a pair up...

Hi all,

Apologies for not posting this earlier, as it's been around a few months now, but still, time for an update.

In this thread I confidently posted that the 28 Series vans lost their advertising after the war. That had always been the case, till, what do you know, a Crawfords biscuits promo set turns up with a 280 (postwar) advertising van included!



Sold for £400.00, if I had any idea I would have willingly paid three times that. Still you live and learn.
Unique? Probably not....
