There is a silver foil that's used in modeling that will duplicate the hot foil method. I know one modeler who has done wheels in the pressure sensitive foil to restore them ... but, it's a bunch of delicate fine work with a hobby knife to make them look good. Personally I find the foil somewhat expensive and difficult to work with on a 1:64 or smaller model. It's much easier to use a little silver leaf paint and a fine brush to make the wheels look better.

Dave does some fine work and I consider the mix-up a compliment. However, credit where credit is due and I see that's already been corrected.
It might be time to start my "Bucket List."

A great looking model Dave, nice work indeed! How did you work the axle ends?

I didn't, those wheels were taken from another model.

Yes, first thread first, not first thread last, or last thread first and leaving the first thread lost... :!:

Hi Dave, really love your restoration work! The 'before' Capri is a sad example indeed.. the bonnet (hood) looks like the aftermath of a witches' barbeque! I'm sure that in its tiny metallic heart, it feels grateful for what you've done!

Some interesting snippets from yourself and others re. the 'hot foiling' on the hubs. I've rejected many an otherwise mint-ish model for having foil wear on the hubs. Seeing as the wheels are an integral focus of the model, when the chrome is dulled or worn off, I find that it severely degrades the appearance of the model.

You might want to give the "Dodge Dragster restoration video" a look-in. It's on YouTube, but linked from this Forum. The model is restored virtually from the ground up, and you even see him 're-chrome' the wheel hubs. Here's the link, the vid's in 3 parts and it's in Portuguese (though you can still follow it visually)..

Many thanks, and kudos for your fine work!

Cheers, Ken
