29b Austin A55 Cambridge Variants
Re: 29b Austin A55 Cambridge Variants
Nick's listing is the proper painting order for at least two of my favorite "Error" models that we now have in our collection. Please keep in mind that kwakers now has "Moko" Gary from Australia's 29 Austin with the reverse painted pale green roof trim. The factory paint mask was put on this model's body in reverse, so the roof and most of the hood were painted pale green instead of the roof and the trunk. I also have another painting error on this Austin that was sold to us by another collector in Australia. The mask was not in it's proper place at all, so almost the entire car is pale green, while small areas of it's nose and tail show that it had already been painted with the basic body color of metallic green. Nick's "Error" pages may still contain Gary's excellent pictures of the reverse mask painted Austin from 5 years ago (?) if they in fact got transferred from the LeFora site........kwakers

Our 29 Austin is still featured on page 6 of Nick's OOPS pages. Someone more clever than I may be able to show it here, not Caveman kwakers. THANK YOU GHOSTY, (You even beat my Post here!! Nick was jealous of this model when Gary owned it, and so was I !! Nick has Excellent taste in Lesneys....LOL
For some crazy reason Gary sold his collection complete without telling any Forum members in advance......Complete EXCEPT for this Austin that I was able to buy a bit later when Gary offered it here in "The Marketplace". This model is quite the sight to behold, just as it is shown in Gary's photos. kwakers

Nice model Ghostie, I have another example of the factory paint mask which was put on this model's body in a wrong way.

I have an interesing model with much more lighter roof. Typically the roof of 29b Austin has the same colour as the body of 34b Volkswagen Camper. One of my Austin has the roof colour similar to 57a Wolseley. The metallic green painting is due to a lighter primary colour more lighter also (almost silver).

Hi
Thanks all for your comments to the paint.
Funny things apeared here.
But what about the headlights.
Is the silver paint gone thrue the years or where they never painted?
Does anybody have a model without silvered headlights?
Stephan
By the way - a happy new year to all of you with lots of new old models and new variations.

Hi StephanMalibu wrote:-In Nicks list the description of painting the model says that first the metallic green paint and then the pale green paint was added. Isn´t it the other way first pale green and then metallic green?
Stephan
I agree with you, first was pale green (primary colour) and then metallic green. I will check my silver trim.

Here's my 'error' piece
On the left, rear door pillar just above the door handle there appears to be evidence of the darker green overspray
Does it looks like there was a beginning to the dark green spray process on the side?On the left, rear door pillar just above the door handle there appears to be evidence of the darker green overspray

Re: 29b Austin A55 Cambridge Variants
Very Nice example Rodger, happy new year.
I wonder if this is a case of the spray gun failing momentarily on the right hand side as it went down spray painting line, as it appears to be metallic green painted on the bonnet and on left side where the guns were working ok.
Is there any silver trim on this one Rodger as mentioned by Stephan in the earlier part of post, ie headlights?
I too like this sort of error and all the ones shown above.
Regards
Bert

I would rather say that this model confirms that the metallic green was sprayed after pale green. You have metallic overspray on the pale green where the metallic paint went beneath the loose fitting mask on the bonnet. If the pale green was sprayed over the metallic, there would be pale green overspray on the metallic green towards the front.
