Greetings,
I have some subject photos and narration from my Collecting friend who has some very interesting variations on this model. I will do my best to post them correctly!
I am impressed with the variations he has accumulated over the years within his amazing collection and really appreciate him sharing the information and photos. Much of this could ultimately probably be posted on the "Missing, Previously-catalogued 1-75 Regular wheel variations forum also. Enjoy....

First, we have from the top picture:
All the models on top have narrow hinges ("rear supports" reference in AIM catalogs) , of which two have Douglas adverts, and the reminder have Pointer advert. The models showing at the bottom row are to show the comparison between the thickness of the hinges. The models in orange color have white plastic grill, one has narrow hinges and the other has thicker hinges.
The 4th model from the left at the bottom row has wide brace (third brace from front under wheels). The width is 4.75 mm compared the narrow ones that are 4.25 mm. More on this in 3rd and 4th photos below. This is a variation characteristic not normally identified as such nor included in references.

In this photo below, There is one model in yellow body and white plastic grill (2nd from bottom on left side)which the only one I have ever seen.

Here are two more pictures showing 4 models with thin hinges (rear supports) of which 2 having Douglas and 2 having Pointer labels. The models on top of photos have narrow brace and the ones at the bottom have wide braces.

Photo below shows a few interesting models closer up such as yellow with white grill, orange with white grill and narrow hinges, and two different variations of orange with no tow guides. In my collector friend's opinion, these orange ones without the tow guides shown are the hardest to find.

And finally, the photo below is an indication of how many different variations there could be!! (only about 1/2 possible In photo). We haven't even discussed the chassis type baseplate difference (per Stannard and Nick's listing) nor the raised vs. non-raised name on the front of the baseplate (per Nick's listing) references here (above). Very interesting and MUCH to search for!!
Thanks,
Bill

Bill, can your collector friend shed any light on either the red or reversed monochrome 'Douglas' label variations?

I have a question. With such a stunning selection of tippers and I'm sure he has may other models, why isn't your collector friend a member of the forum?

Cheers, Steve

Hi Idris, Dan, and Steve,

Bill, can your collector friend shed any light on either the red or reversed monochrome 'Douglas' label variations? Per conversations, it is quite possible that these labels are real, but have never held one in hand.
This model seemed to evolve very quickly with numerous changes so transitioning labels seems to be in line.

In addition, as shown with the first photo in this thread, the tipper tail-gate has the model # 51 on it along with another number on the other side. It seems that the second number is 1 through 12 (inclusive) based on personal observations. Any other numbers out there? Based on observations of the different numbers and models that they are on, it doesn't seem like there is a chronological model connection starting at 1 (one) and counting forward.

Steve:"I have a question. With such a stunning selection of tippers and I'm sure he has may other models, why isn't your collector friend a member of the forum"?
It is my understanding that he is a forum member and views posts on a regular basis. Hopeful that at some point, he will also post and be more directly active. In the meantime, I am glad that we are able to share his photos and tremendous knowledge of this hobby!
