I once visited a collector who wore white cotton curator's gloves whenever he touched the models. I also had to wear a pair of the gloves to handle any of the models. There was also a small demonstration as to how to hold a model without touching the decals or labels and without touching plastic parts which may have become brittle. There were some specific models he didn't want handled at all. I respected his wishes and for the most part I chose to view the models where they sat or allowed him to handle them and show them to me. I was never that cautious with my own collection with the exception of careful handling in the area of decals.
Thanks for the background info, I understand the reason for the lab coat (but it still causes a fond recall of my time with the German engineers and teachers.
