Some advice regarding Dinky toys

The two clockwork tinplate cars are from a Louis Marx race set and is missing all the track but still very hard to find and so therefore very collectible.

The upside of auction houses is that they do all the publicity for you and are able to contact a large pool of potential bidders The downside is that you pay through the nose for that service (as do the buyers). If you are confident about how much a particular item would likely fetch at auction, then you could consider a private deal along the lines of hammer price less buyer's commission less 50% of seller's commission. Everyone quids in and everyone happy (plus you then know that the models have gone to a good home where they will be looked after and admired).

What a lovely collection,the lledos are worth very little ,and i wouldn,t show them the auctioneer,your 28 series are,and has been said many times very desirible and my guess at auction on a good day would fetch £4000 to £7000,the tootietoys may make £200,the other dinkies are pre war ,you have a chrysler airflow in maroon ,a taxi and 2 buses and a wagon,i would expect them to average out around £100 each,the other green van is a minic and if it came with the others more than likely pre war and my guess of its value is £20 to £30.
The taylor and barrett trolley bus i would guess around £70 and the lumar clockwork cars i have seen fetch £12 each .
If i was selling them i would definately sell at a well established toy auction,top stuff will sell for top money,and i wouldn,t sell on ebay under any circumstances toys of this calibre ,there would be to many sharks and scammers wanting them and trying to rip you off.

Thanks that's great info. Yeah ill avoid ebay if I can. Really appreciate all of the information I had no idea... Although I do collect records and Hifi so appreciate that the most unlikely things can be collectable and valuable.

I am an Ebay trader and have been since 2001 in March but seeing how things have been on there for a good while I would also recommend going to an auction house but make sure it is one that specialises in toys.All you items will go world wide for viewing and reach the biggest potential market of collectors that are willing to lay down the cash and all you have to worry about is collecting the rewards.
True auctions are an open market for traders like me but when it comes down to rare or highly sought items thats where the big money is..Good luck......No I wont be bidding on any of them if you do list them as I'm really not rich enough.

The two auction houses that spring to mind are Vectis and SAS. (I have bought from both in the past, but have never sold at either.)

Thanks, ive contacted Vectis, chartehouse and SAS. Vectis havent replied, SAS dont have a sale until autumn and charterhouse are very slow.. Its not super urgent but given the age of the person im acting on behalf of I cant wait until Autumn, may have to go to Ebay after all!

I'm not convinced that's a wise move.
I think you need to decide if they are to be sold individually, or as a group. If the latter, then they really need to go to an auction house. If the former then, with a little research, you should be able to work out an approximate value for individual items. Bearing in mind what I said previously about buyer's and seller's premiums, you will then be in a position to arrive at fair prices for private transactions.
There is a Marketplace section on this Forum where you could advertise them and, if you were to restrict sales to Members with a minimum post count of, say, 50, you would immediately weed out all the sharks and ne'er-do-wells, and be left with a rump of serious collectors with whom you could do business with confidence.
