I have posted several pictures which are of poor quality and would like to invest in another camera so which one do you use or recommend. The pictures I have seen in the threads on this forum are excellent and make me quite envious.
I used to have a Fuji and it took quite good photos buy it went missing. Iam now using a Sony DSC-W800 digital and it is not up to the job.
I just want to point camera at subject and focus in myself. Iwould have gone to a camera shop but due to lockdown cannot travel, plus they will be closed.
What do you recommend considering I do not want or need an expensive camera.
Thanks
What camera do you use?
Re: What camera do you use?
I have a Canon DSLR, which is great but seriously over the top for straightforward images of cars! I think your Sony should be fine: it has a 20 megapixel sensor and focuses down to 5 cm. Invest in a cheap tabletop tripod to hold it still and make sure it’s focused in the right place. Pictures from smartphones can also be excellent. The secret to close-ups is holding the camera really still on a tripod or beanbag, because then you can get the focusing right. Small sensors, like on an iPhone or similar, have the benefit of giving greater depth of field, which means more of the vehicle will be in focus.
Re: What camera do you use?
I've been using my phone camera (Samsung Galaxy A11) as of late. My experience with dedicated cameras is that Canon is the cream of the crop. The Fuji I bought back in 2005 was good, but would now be horribly outdated. Nikons, in my opinion, aren't great. If you already have a decent smartphone, it should do the job just fine. However, I would like to have a DSLR, as it's a more old-school and hands-on approach.

I use a Canon PowerShot A290 IS. This is a compact digital camera. and a Samsung A10 phone.
As stated, a solid base is needed, whatever medium you use. The above picture was taken with the camera on a tripod. I have studio lights, so no flash used. Camera set on "manual" & "maco". distance from car to camera 20 cm approx. The above picture was taken with the phone, under the same lights, with flash. Held on the tripod, same distance to car.
Both pictures have had a little post editing for exposure.
To be honest, digital SLR cameras are very nice, but can be expensive and over complicated. better for the bigger pictures, landscapes and so on.

I use a very cheap bought off Ebay Fuji....The very first I bought full price but since then[2001]the prices and choice is massive. So I only buy second hand.I'm on number 6 and the one I use now is an A3 battery job as the price of Duracell has dropped so much.I am binning two off to the charaty shop when it reopens...I dont mind a bit of criticism but make your own mind up......Good enough for Ebay anyway.
Heres the man with the bargains.Always open to offers from this sites members..http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/misterpop/m.h ... m=&_ipg=25

I've never heard of Xiaomi...Ergomatic wrote:I have a Canon DSLR too, but for daily use I use my smatphone ( Xiaomi MiA1 )
That's another thing: good photo editing can make up for lack of desired exposure and contrast. I've yet to find good photo-editing software for Android at a price I'm willing to pay.YYS4BOB wrote:Both pictures have had a little post editing for exposure.
I concentrate on getting my models at a proper distance from the camera, and then getting the camera to focus. Bob said his photos were taken with the camera about 20 cm/8 inches from the model. Mine were taken with the camera about 7.5 cm/3 inches from the model. Combinations of a table lamp and flash were used. From top to bottom, they are: no flash nor light, light only, flash only, and both light and flash. Placing the model beside a window on a sunny day also works well for me. I don't use a tripod or any sort of mount.
Building a photo booth is also something I'd like to do.

Re: What camera do you use?
The Sony DSC-W800 is perfectly adequate for this sort of photography. It has a 20MP image sensor and is a fairly well specified camera so unless something is faulty I do not know why you say the camera is not up to it!
I use far less specified Sony cameras and my pictures have been rated quite high by other forum members!

Set up taken with phone. Studio lights off, room lights on.
Edited with PC onboard software.
And with the room lights and studio lights on. edited as above. Flash on phone used in all shots.

That's pretty much what I had in mind. What did you use for the white background?YYS4BOB wrote:Set up taken with phone.
