Re: K17A Low Loader with Bulldozer
Nice additions Charlie,3. Grn cab/unp K17 bas/BPT/red hubs/clr xle sprg/Laing dcls/grn trlr typ a/clr xle sprg/no brace/red & yel dozer/2 stacks/typ 1 cab/yel rollers/typ b/grn trks/Laing dcls/no guide.
The item of interest here is the Case dozer with the yellow rollers. These yellow rollers have been paired with the earliest casting of the Case, evident by the lack of reinforcement on the side of the covers. You show this as type “b” but I think they are type “A” and should also have two thin braces under the floor platform directly above rear roller as apposed to one wide and one thin brace.
So the question is this old casting stock being used at the time of the use of yellow rollers or is the fitting of yellow rollers in the very beginning. The cab that is fitted to this early dozer casting is also the nicest cab with lines of rivet/bolt marks on the side, no doubt cast when the mould was new.
You probably want to keep the transporter and Case paired as you received them but given the play wear on blade and the passing of 50 plus years I would pair the early casting Case with early trailer and amber dome tractor/clear windows in line with metal casting timeline.
Any chance you could please snap a photo of the base of the Case to see if there is a case of the Case base being different. A case of the Case base tongue twister.
While you have the camera out can you snap a pic please of the base of the amber dome tractor along side your earliest no tow guide base tractor. Curious about plating on this one
Thanks Charlie, nice work.
Best regards
Bert

Re: K17A Low Loader with Bulldozer
Hi Bert,
Thank you for pointing that out. You are correct wrt the dozer. It is certainly the earliest casting. I have taken some more pictures outlining the cast differences of the two stack dozers.
Whether it is being used at the very beginning with yellow rollers or as you wrote "is it the case of old casting stock being used at the time of the use of yellow rollers"
is anyone's guess unless someone out there knows better.
I have also taken more pictures of the cab base. Three cab base variations noted; the one with amber dome light has no tow guide and it comes with no base lines (10 lines)
which is a first for me.
I must add that this model has been very interesting indeed. I realize it is a three piece model which adds to the challenge of properly documenting the numerous cast variations.

Re: K17A Low Loader with Bulldozer
Hi Jason,
Nice one. K17A Low loader has produced quite a number of variations and so I have another one to add to my 'wants' list.
This list seems to be going in the opposite direction; instead of shrinking it is getting longer. It certainly makes collecting
them more fun & interesting although not so good for the display shelves.

Re: K17A Low Loader with Bulldozer
How odd that there is a two stack casting with brace and one stack castings with no brace. Could two different dies be in play, one with and one without the brace, that were modified at different times.
It might be time to start my "Bucket List."
