One of our Members (who wishes to remain anonymous so let's call him Mr. X) has been reviewing his collection and has wondering about the GPW 21c shown in the photographs below, his concern being that it might be a wheel swap.

I agree. The damage shown appears to be the result of contact with a hot object rather than brute force, and it is not obvious how the melted areas could relate to effecting a wheel swap.(Even if the idea was to soften the wheel and force it over the peened axle end, it would not have resulted in such localised melting.)nearlymint wrote:Hi Hugh,

The damage could be from a mis-strike of the peening tool. It’s usually a more obvious circle but this isn’t too far off. Looks good to me too.

I agree, looks original. Accidents happen and sometimes it seems that we find the accidents at the same time as we find the model we've been searching for. Funny how that works.
It might be time to start my "Bucket List."
