Hello and thanks for having me. I have a Tri-Ang “Thames Trader” truck which is being renovated for me. It has suffered the ravages of two generations of children, a total of fourteen, so it’s done well to survive from the early 60’s!

To complete the project, and return the truck to its former glory, I am looking for a set of eight milk churns which would have included with the truck originally. Once the project is complete, I will be passing it on to the very first of a third generation, who has recently arrived on this earth.

I would be most grateful for any help anyone could offer regarding the acquisition of the milk churns.

Could this be the massive tin Thames Trader that Triang made ? If so the churns are a lot bigger I would have thought.It says they could be 6 inch plastic items....Could be made from broom handle wood I think.....https://www.google.com/search?q=triang+ ... EqFrww0gMM

I bet that's right, he needs those (plastic I think) milk churns.

Hello and many thanks to “tin man” and “ mister pop” for the first of, I hope, more replies. Yes you are right tin man, it’s a large toy, it’s 16” long by 6” wide, and the payload area is 11” by 6” by 4” deep. I would prefer to find an original set, similar to those shown in tin mans post. I would LOVE to find a set like that!

Mister pop might be right in suggesting I get them made, so thanks for tip in that direction, but I will wait and see if anyone can put me on to an original set first. Thanks again for your replies.

Welcome to the forum.

I have several of this range of Tri-ang and have done a similar thing with a slightly earlier milk truck. To preserve the metal churns I turned 8 wooden ones out of Beech as temporary replacements. This enables the grandsons to get plenty of use out of the truck and it load and keeps the tin churns in good condition for a fourth generation.

You may like to try here where just about all things Tri-ang can be learnt.
I have contributed to this site and it may give you a possibility to finding the churns as spare parts to suit your Thames. Send them an email about your quest along with photos of your project, I am sure they would love to see it.

We would also like to see a pic when you have it finished. It is very satisfying to see a third generation getting some play value from such well made toys.

Hello Bert, and many thanks for your welcome and your advice. It really would be great to find a set of originals, I will contact the site you have suggested. I will send some pictures when the project is complete. Please keep me informed if you should unearth any leads regarding an original set. Thanks again.

I have 7 milk churns for sale ,all with surface rust and no lids,vectis sold a trader with this type of churn so i think they are the right ones,pm if you are interested
sorry i don,t have any electrics for one(headlights from your other post) ,but should be fairly simle to make
