Post by YYS4BOB »

Two with brighter red bases than standard as on the middle model. Not seen many of these.

Slight shade difference in the roof. I await The Master's assessment.

Appear to be 1971 issues.

The middle model is a definite late 1971 build model with the dark red colour which is a fine metallic compared to the lighter reds.

All three have the narrow front seat and the first two seem to have the same headlamps casting the third is not clear enough to define.

I would imagine all three have the inner side rail 'Pips' (white book 'Roof Lugs'), long front axle housing fill-in, large screen support (the cast tab on the underside of the roof to help support the top of the windscreen) and the wide RR grille badge.

If these were on ebay ready for one of us to buy, this would be my guess as to their identies. There are other details which would tie these down more accurately which can not be seen in the pictures.

How common are these bases? One came from the boss here, the other from E-Bay last week. I vaguely remember Christian F had one as well.
As far as I can tell, the three models in the picture all have matching casting details, but then I'm as blind as a bat when it comes to microscopic (to me) detail like badge widths, even with a big illuminated magnifier.

I would say they are 'Hard To Find' unless you concentrate your searching at the late 1971 into 1972 period.

I don't have a recent group picture but in this old cropped pictture the last two are the lighter red versions.

These are lined up in the Time-Line order.
