Here are some Matchbox customised cars I recently came across. They are in a friends collection who got them of a railway enthusiast. Some of them look quite good, others not so.
It always makes me wonder why when in financial trouble rather keep producing new models and molds which were very expensive Lesney didn't just recolour some models like the Brazilian ones and or just change the stickers or decoration more as seen on the following models. I know they did a bit more of this towards the end but it was a bit late then.
Thanks, Steve

Re: Matchbox Customs
The more I read on the history of the industry, the more clear it becomes that whatever makes you wonder was in the end caused by the unions.matchboxkiwi wrote:It always makes me wonder why when in financial trouble rather keep producing new models and molds which were very expensive Lesney didn't just recolour some models like the Brazilian ones and or just change the stickers or decoration more as seen on the following models. They put up a fight against any form of innovation, rationalisation, or even minute changes to existing manufacturing processes. Resolving these disputes more often than not took years.
Changing of stickers or decorations? Not without an entirely new collective agreement.
