facebook.

facebook...

There is a word to conjure up a whole barn load of horrors!

There is no denying facebook has had a lot of bad press in the media and on the back of some of the stories, I had refused for a long time to get onto facebook. However, my model club commitments forced me to get involved with facebook and so treading gingerly around the platform and learning what goes where and why! it was clear facebook has its benefits, especially to collectors and enthusiasts of old vehicles etc.

A long lost railway I am interested in had a group on facebook but was rather dormant when I joined the group with no activity for several months, but after a message to the admin of the group about handing it over to me and I'll be come admin the creator of the group made me the moderator and over night the group transformed from a dusty old neglected ghost group into a thiving 200+ members hive of activity!

So, who would like the VBD to be on facebook with an official presence using the same title and header artwork you see above at the top of your screen.

Nick is already on facebook and I have at times had to use facebook to get message to him so I think we will have Nick's backing in this idea.

Now, forget all those earlier bad press stories about facebook, they have cleaned up their act in recent times and using facebook is so easy especially when it comes to posting pictures.

Like the forum, whoever creates a facebook page or group will automatically become the Admin who can then assign Moderator status to a member or members to oversee the running of the posts etc.

Our sister forum Mick Flack's Moyboyz enjoys having the forum and a facebook group with some members being involved with both while some facebook members are aware of the main forum they choose not to go any further than facebook partly due to how much easier it is to be posting on facebook.

With facebook you either love it or hate it. I was once a hater, but now I love it!

Do you want to kill both sites Kevin as that is what will happen. A lot do not like Facebook due to all the ads, notifications and other garbage that pops up. I have pages full of endless people who are friends, of friends, of friends who I have never heard of, don't wish to know or add to my friends list yet when i delete them all more pop up so as you say cleaned up their act I don't thinks so. I get sponsored ads which are of no interest to me and if I do search for something on the net I then find FB will target me with ads for similar products so don't sugar coat it.
I only go on there to try and drive new members to Moyboyz otherwise I would dump the whole thing. They have/keep to much personal data on you

Please do not change anything here. I never liked Fake book and doubt if I ever will. Thank you.

Charlie, nothing is being changed here. The forum is a stand alone entity as is facebook. The idea is to generate interest in the forum by haveing another outlet to attract the collectors, facebook would be that other outlet.

I joined Facebook (with great reluctance) in order to be able to participate in the MCF and the spin-off Matchbox Regular Wheels Wiki. However, I was extremely disappointed by what I found. Putting it crudely, there's a awful lot of willy-waving, no discussion, and no scrutiny. People like Mick peddle their alternative histories and are not challenged.I now regard MCF and the MRWW as being very largely wastes of time.
The only thing I now use Facebook for is pestering Nick when i get locked out of VBD! If it weren't for that, I would close my account.

However, those two Facebook groups are thriving, whilst we struggle to get any kind of discussion going and, putting it bluntly, are running out of active Members. Could we perhaps meet in the middle by having a Facebook presence highlighting VBD topics, simply in order to draw in new blood?

I closed my account because all you get from it is being hounded, stalked, name called and paraded all over the internet.

I have to agree with the sentiment that it will drain people away from here. Nothing beats a good forum for detailed information and discussions. Even if our posting traffic isn't that high, why drain away what little we have. If it weren't for my kids and grand kids, who seem to think FB is where Grand Ma and Grand Pa should come to see pics of meals they are about to eat and selfies from where they've been  ... I'd probably bail out on the whole thing. I stop in to Kev's & Mick's FB pages once in a while to be supportive but that's about it. So final answer would be a no, not interested vote from me.

I've never been to the MCF facebook page. Once the forum was turned off that was the end of it for me.

Oh wait, I do like to put up some non-flattering stuff About Donald J Trump (on my personal FB page) just to keep Tim busy in the opposing opinion department. :D
It might be time to start my "Bucket List."
