10d Pipe Truck resto with new base and home made pipes.

The base on the 10d, 32c and the 51c are all the same (regardless of the lettering on early bases). They also come well play worn and the most common defect is for one or both ends (corners) of the front bumpers to be broken off the base. It's nearly impossible to repair and nothing sticks well enough to tool into the right shape. I've used some resin molded base replacements but that can be cost prohibitive (does anyone have a pattern to order a 3d printed Leyland base?). The Site Hut Truck is the same Leyland truck but the base is different. The good thing is that there are plenty of site hut trucks where the bumpers are in tact. With some modifications, you can fit the site truck base on all three of the previously mentioned trucks. Then you have some wheels, axles, a window insert and a nice bed left over that can be used on other projects.

Pipes are homemade and base comes from the Site Hut truck. Normally, I would extend the base the same length as the original and make a new hole for the pipe truck's rivet. This one was cracked right through the middle of the location where the new rivet hole needed to be. So I had to modify it as shown.

Here's the Site Hut Truck's base used on a #51 eight wheel tipper restoration. Instead of making a new rivet hole (on the shortened hut truck base), I knocked the rivet post down so the base would sit level. A drop of epoxy holds the base on the modified rivet post.

On the other hand, I could take a page out Jack's proverbial book and start a new toy restoring company called Namnit or NAMNIT or maybe even NamNit (which is Tinman backwards and if you can make me say it backwards I return to the 5th dimension).
