I've never made one of these Don's Hobby Shop copies of the famous Herbie the Love Bug. I had a little Superfast #15 and the base didn't want to clean up, so I thought it needs something extra to make it look happy again. The right side rear quarter window was half broken out so I cut the rest of that area out and did a new side window on the rear quarter. I tried as much as I could to polish up the base but nothing helped.
Normally, the job Lesney did on their castings is really excellent. On this one, not so much. It looks like someone just "phoned it in." There is what looks damage to the mold that was repaired on the right side of the model above the door and drip rail area of the roof. The way the die fits together is odd and leaves casting lines like a poorly executed front and rear clip were done to the model. Not up to their usual high standard, more like something Mattel would do.

It might be time to start my "Bucket List."
