Thanks for all the comments

The grey engine is hard to find - black is unlisted, as far as I know. Tell us more! Is there anything else special about this one?
A couple of years ago I acquired an Opel Diplomat with the early base and when trying to find out how rare it might be and if any others had been sold I came across a previous sale of an Opel fitted with a black engine. This had been sold at a well known Auction House, albeit quite a few years back. I was able to buy mine last year - It certainly wasn't cheap but I think it is quite rare

Apart from the engine colour it seems to be a standard late model issue

I bought this for the all over yellow colour scheme but the seller photo didn't show the narrow axle braces and I don't think it was mentioned in their description so it was a pleasant surprise when I took delivery

Sorry I can only provide a base photo of the second Mercedes Truck and have no access to a camera at present. However the first Mercedes seems to have the same base - no tow guide, same pattern orientation on the chrome and letter spacing on the chassis

Happy Collecting :) :)

Isn't it odd how (what I have always considered to be) a particularly uninteresting RW model, the 36c Opel Diplomat, has now thrown up two really interesting variations: the early baseplate, and the black engine?

A few months ago I tried to buy a 2c Dumper with the Muir Hill decal but was well outbid - so I decided to find out what I could about this model and see what was available - this selection is small in size but I think I got a little lucky with one of them

1 Later model with unpainted grill, thick axles supports, chassis brace and great box

2 Transitional model with silver grill, thin axle supports, shouldered wheels but fitted with chassis brace found on the later models

3 Earliest model with silver grill without vertical bars either side of the horizontal slats, thin axle supports, shouldered wheels and no hole in the base - this model has no decal and no sign of ever having been fitted with one but is in great condition

Happy Collecting :)

Late last year I got my first Case bulldozer without the quotes on the base but never got around to posting it. This year I managed to get another six models without the quotes. Out of the total of seven models two are beaters so I haven't posted them but the other five are in good condition and are listed below

1st model has Base number 4 - not as good as some of the others but still presentable
2nd model has Base number 1
3rd model has Base number 1 - no base photo shown as I have mislaid it and the models are packed away at present
4th model has Base number 1
5th model has Base number 4 - the first one bought and probably the one in the best condition

The beaters that are not shown are both base number 3 so the hunt is still on for base number 2 to give me at least one of each variation

Happy Collecting :)

That must be the world’s biggest collection of no quotes Case tractors! I don’t think anyone’s shown base 3 before, so it’s good to know it exists. Jason has base 2, so that’s confirmation of all four in this very early base. The previous discussion was here.

Thanks for the comments - I think I got lucky and was able to get 4 of them over the same weekend a few months ago

I have posted below base photos of my two Base 3 beater versions - there are a couple of differences between them - the lower photo shows an extra ridge of metal has been added to the rear chassis brace and the L & E letters in the LESNEY wording are faint and barely legible. To me these differences suggest that maybe more than one mould was in use early in production for base 3

Managed to get another couple of no quotes models as below - the second one is in slightly better shape and seems to be the more interesting one

1 Base1 version - usual features of early track guards, thin yellow brace , horizontal bar either side of tow hook with thin metal below

2 Base4 version - early track guards, thin yellow brace but thickened red painted metal below the tow hook so that only the top edge of the horizontal bar is visible - possible interim version as I think the thicker metal below the tow hook is a characteristic of the later versions with quotes

I think the difference in the thickness of the red metal behind the yellow brace is quite apparent when you compare the two base photos

Need to start looking now for the Base 1, 2 and 3 versions!

Happy collecting

Sebastian :) :)
