33 Miura - Yellow - RW base

Post by tractorboy »

Good Day,
This is my first venture into the Superfast forum so please excuse any ignorance on my part.
I picked this up recently from our local auction site. It didn't feature a base photo so assumed would be the normal Superfast base.

Surprised to find it had the RW base.

The wheel width is 3.5mm (approx)

Looking carefully at the axles (photo 3) I wondered if they had been tampered, yet when I checked against my other regular wheel Miura the finish was very similar.
Tried to macro photograph the axle ends and would welcome any comments

Roger, if you are thinking this is a Superfast model then stop right now. This is a Regular wheel version hand trimmed which includes enhancement of the wheels. This is not a Superfast Miura.

Thanks Ghosty, now you've said that I've looked closely at black markings on hubs and am assuming that someone has painted black markings over regular wheel disc hubs. For a moment there I thought I'd got something interesting. Oh well back into my regular wheel bubble!
Interesting though about the axle ends, if genuine it gives more weight to the occasional poor quality of the peening process.

Someone may have taken the wheels off, painted them and put them back on and then peened over the ends with a hammer.
It might be time to start my "Bucket List."

Whilst I think it unlikely that this is anything special, I believe it is worth establishing whether the spokes are painted black over silver or silver over black. If the former then, yes, chances are it it an after-market 'improvement' (beauty is in the eye of the beholder). However, if the latter, the implication would be that the painter began with all-black hubs, which is non-standard, suggesting something out of the ordinary might have taken place.

On inspection with irregular black coverage, and given can see silver hubs from baseplate view it is likely to be black paint on silver hubs. Over the weekend I will try to remove some of the black with small dab of solvent to see what is underneath

Use alcohol first as it can remove black marker and some paints. Stronger Solvents can melt plastic and take off the chrome finish. When I first clicked on this post, I thought a model with painted hubs isn't really a superfast, what's the deal. I can see where, in hand, one might not notice right away that they are painted. As to why someone would do that, it's anyone's guess.
