Unknown diecast double decker "restore" 30mm long!

Post by Iain P »

My mother gave this to me some years ago and I finally got round to taking it apart and tidying it up a bit this week. It's a bit rich to call this a restoration; I just cleaned it and touched up some of the paint. What a super little bus! It was made as toy for a dolls house, so that's 1/12 of 1/12 scale = 1/144 scale but it's really too small at that scale. It's 30mm long and 16mm tall so scaled up that would be only 4.32 metres long. Mum can't remember exactly where she bought it or what she paid for it, but it was several decades ago at least, and she claims it's a British made piece, bought from the dealer / maker at an "upmarket" toy fair. She has a habit of paying a LOT for here doll's house accessories and presumably this is no exception!

It's a sold metal construction, including the wheels and axles, which turn, though only just. And it feels heavy despite its size.
Here's the "before" with some paint loss to the front and some chips on the corners, wheels and sides:

During:

The detail on the downstairs seating is quite good, even though it's mostly hidden when the top deck is on. Actually the bottom deck is far better than the top.

And next to the Matchbox 5C which is 66 mm long

And here's the base in case it helps shed any light on it.

That thing is pretty small, no idea who made it or when. Nice job on the micro restoration.
It might be time to start my "Bucket List."
