25c Bedford Tanker goes back to the paint shop

I should have taken a "before pic." I'm posting an old before pic instead, however this latest one had even more layers of paint than this old pic. I'm running out of options for red hobby paint and I tried to undercoat the model in white to make the red top coat brighter. Two attempts proved fruitless as the paints reacted with one another. Third attempt at painting and the model, it slipped of the clamp and the paint was ruined when I grabbed it before it hit the floor. Fourth time was the charm using grey primer and the only other red paint option I had. After all that work and effort I decided on GPW and the ESSO Home Heating Oils decals. It came out nice but took way to many paint & strip, paint and strip attempts to get this far LOL. Model was missing the interior and I don't have a fix for that.

Back in the 80s I was working at a commercial scrap yard and I got sent to pick up a scrap TK from behind a pub.It looked like it had been there for 50 years covered as it was in ivy and moss and all sorts of other crap on the bed that was actualy a sort of beaver tail but with big ramps that where sticking up about 8 feet at the back.Well after a bit of clearing stuff away and a jump start it finaly burst into life and did'nt sound to bad to be honest.Well I wrestled it out from its nearly last resting place and set off back to the yard on trade plates..Passing through a small village on the way I hit a big pot hole in the road and glancing back, to my horror saw one of the ramps come detached and drop straight into to front of a brand new BMW that was tail gateing me as it where....Bang the ramp hit the road and bounced back up hitting his front bumper on the way passed.I really thought I had written off his whole front end and I quickly pulled up at the side of the road..The guys face was a picture as he sat in his vertualy new car staring straight ahead at the back of my scrap yard on wheels..When I climbed down and looked at his car there was not one mark on it..My ramp had hit his bumper right in the middle and hit a glancing blow on the rubber insert.Not even a scratch just a little bit of rust that wiped off in one fell swoop of the hand..You know the one,we have all done it..With that I reatched the ramp and carried on back to the yard with a great story for who ever would be bored enough to read it in years to come.

Not boring at all. I've got a ton of stories from my days turning wrenches and running shops ... none (zero, nada, zilch) end without lots of damage or a totaled vehicle.

Thanks to all who left positive comments and to those who looked-in. I love Restoring and making Customs. It's just good clean fun and when someone else likes them too, that's music to my ears.
