My love for customizing the 1e Mercedes Dropside continues with a tribute to the Y27 Foden steam "Pickfords."

I was looking at the photos I posted and decided that the "Movers & Storers" decal did not lay down well on the raised lines of the drop side casting. While it was still fresh I went over the decal with a little magic elixir: Solvaset. If you're not aware of the product is a decal setting solution that allows the film to snuggle tight on the surface. The below pic I took after application of the Solvaset, the decal laid down nice & tight on the raised cast lines.

I get those white decals from: "The Gettin' Place" (a line I often quote from "No Country For Old Men"). The decals came from my friendly supplier in the Netherlands:

I came very close to buying a reconditioned ALPS printer a while back, as i wanted to be able to create my own decals in white, gold and silver. The problem with those things is that they like to be used and not sit for extended periods of time. I have enough trouble keeping my two inkjet and one troublesome HP laser printer in good working condition. Of the two inkjets, one is an HP all-in-one and is the most trouble free. However, you buy the machine all over again (several times a year) with the cost of ink cartridges. The second inkjet is a Lexmark Pro 900 series and it's the most problematic with multiple repeat issues. It's the last Lexmark I'll ever get. I'm wondering if the print quality of the Brother inkjet with the eco-tank of inks is decent enough to do decals. The idea of not having to buy over priced ink cartridges (over and over again throughout the year) is very appealing.

I would love to hear what others are using as their primary printer to make their own decals. It would make a good thread by itself and maybe we could share the brands and types of printers we use along with any preferred software. So how about it folks, what are you using?

Mine is a very cheap Canon.£35 from Tesco.I have had a few.Yes the ink is dear but I refill my own and mostly use it for parcel addressing.I give it a service before any decal work,very limited though....Stay safe.Ian.
