Hi Nick,

I like this one better already after less than two minutes. Even if all the old posts can't be saved, what matters is that all the old gang are (or soon will be) back on board.

Cheers,
Gavin

My thoughts exactly Gavin, The threads from the old forum might be recoverable as Martin Avis has scraped and copied them, They are valuable but not as valuable to me as the friendships I have made over the last 4 years or more.

Nick,

I received a couple of emails that went to my "junk" folder, and one can never be too cautious these days. One was a "welcome" and one was a "post approved," both seeming to be from you. I assume they are automated from the new forum, and legit, but I just wanted to be sure. Are you aware of this? Also, you can PM me and I'll send you the "from" email address if you want it.

Thanks again,

Alan

(I actually don't mind if that's how the new site is going to work. It would be handy for me to get various confirmations.)

Hi Alan.
Your first two or three posts by default need to be approved by me, this forum will email you to let you know they have been approved, after this your posts will show straight away without needing approval. It helps keep the spammers out

I still have access to the "new" old Lefora website. I have a bookmark to one of Nick's pages, that when you click on Forum, it takes you to the Lefora website. All the old info is still there!

Hi pkp.
I changed all of the links from my site to lefora and redirected them to this forum so once you refresh the page that links to the old forum it will(should) bring you here, Martin Avis has scraped most of the threads on the old forum so once I figure out how this site works I should be able to add them here.

Nick,

I've been thinking about how the old saved threads could be added here and have come to the conclusion that may not be possible. Every person who made any of those old posts would need to be registered here with the exact same username or the database would get very confused. In addition, having read a bit about how the phpBB database works, the transfer would be incredibly complex anyway.

Having said that, there may well a better way.

It should be 'relatively' straightforward to build a web page for each thread on this domain - not inside this new forum, but alongside it. That way, all the useful information and discussion would be preserved for the hobby at large. It may even be possible to do it all inside a Wordpress blog so that each thread will still be able to receive new comments - but I'll need to think about how that can be achieved.

It is such a shame that pictures posted to Lefora were not able to be saved.
