A recent topic has been dscussing the possibility of some kind of formal get-together/convention/gathering in the UK.
Matters are still at a very early stage, and the first thing we need to understand is what potential participants would want from such an event were one to take place. To this end, I have put together a poll of various options in order that we might better understand just what it is that people are after.
Please vote for as many elements as you like, and we'll see where we end up!
If you would like to see something that is not listed, please add a post with details of the idea to the topic.
The poll will run for 30 days, and you may vote for as many elements as you like, but please select only one of the numbered options which cover the possible scope of such an event.
Possible UK-based convention Poll
Re: Possible UK-based convention Poll
So, the poll has closed and the preferences of Members are clear. The only problem is, so is the lack of support. (I think the poll could only be completed by logged-in Members but, even so, the number of votes cast is clearly disappointing.)
Sadly, I don't see any other alternative other than to shelve the idea, certainly for the time being. However, it might be possible to graft some elements on to another event, such as an NEC toy fair. (Just think of the publicity for VBD that a display of choice items from Members' collections would generate!)

Re: Possible UK-based convention Poll
Thanks Hugh.
Yes it is disappointing at this early stage and will affect how plans progress.
The idea of grafting some elements on to another event, such as an NEC toy fair could be done at any time as a promotion for the forum by booking a few tables side by side and allowing forum members to display items of their choice and to sell unwanted items. If we do this then by promoting the forum and all its workings means we will be shown as the Vintage British Diecast Forum and not just a Lesney/Matchbox specific entity, but if forum members are happy to be involed with this sort of idea then that's fine, let us know here by posting your views.
