Stair Step Yesteryear, King, Major Dealer Display

Post by durangokid »

I acquired this Dealer Display a few years ago. While it is in really good condition for its age, it was in several pieces so I had to re-assemble and be cautious to maintain integrity.
Since it is Winter here and more inside time, I finally have it back in store condition and ready to fill the Display!
It is for Yesteryears, King Size, Majors, and one Accessory (A-1) While I have seen many of this larger Displays smaller "sibling", (photo also shown), I have not seen many of this larger/assortment Display. I believe it is 1966-67 vintage. I have them placed as shown in Matchbox Dealer catalogs. Original cost for larger Display was $12 USD and $6 for 1-75 Display. Can also cover Displays with a piece of glass or plexiglass to keep dust out as original Displays advertised as glass covered.
Will post more as it fills up.............................. Will also redo the 1-75 Display models to make a little more time accurate.
Bill

Old store displays are great. If I find one that's solely for Yesteryears, I'll have to at least put forth a solid effort to snap it up. I'm glad to see this one went to a good home, and looking forward to seeing it filled up!

They look superb both together !

I found the part for the bigger models in the original transport crate !
It is from 1964-1966.

It took me a while before I found the right models for it.

I took this to a presentation in the German Collectors Club weekend in Maastricht in may 2019.

Here you see it in a rare 1965 UK trade catalogue.

Marcel,
Thanks so much for your response and great pictures! What a treat it must have been for you to find your larger stair step Dealer Display in the original crate! It will be fun to fill my Display--- I have most of the models to fill it yet may have to still add a few since some models are already on other setup Displays. See King Size cardboard Dealer Displays below:

Also, Thank you for this picture above from the Catalog! There are also some Dealer Displays pictured there that I have not seen live, e.g., the smaller stair step Display with different model types on it; the 2 wire type Displays to the woman's left that contain all the boxed models. Often seen is the wall type wire "Box holder" Display (like mine shown below), but I've never seen the "downward inclined" Display shown in your posted photo nor the "spinner type" wire Display with the boxed models. Very cool!
Thanks much, Bill

great displays Bill!
Please use a web hosting site (like photobucket) to store pictures so you can post them here, using attachments makes it hard to view the pictures when you have to scroll to see them. Seeing comparisons of models is hard to see with attachments too.

Thank you for sharing those photos, Marcel! What I assume in is the manufacturer's suggested retail price of $0.75 for the Y5-1 equates to $6.49 in 2020 dollars. I can't quite tell what is holding the 1961 models in place; hopefully it is something that will not mar their paint!

Thanks Bert. I see Bob posted some pictures for me there as I could not post pictures at that time myself.
You see also some comments from me in that tread.
A real nice display.
