Despite showing 1970 on the base it does not appear in the 1970 pocket catalogue, but is in the 1971 edition. Corgi introduced their racing Mini into the Juniors range in 1970 and I was always under the impression of the Matchbox version was based on a specific racing formula for Minis as the Corgi is, where they fit fibreglass bodies which are lower and or wider than the steel bodied road cars.

It is a shame that it when it did appear, the model was far too wide (in order to fit on the Superfast track), and also lost the door details (so that pointless labels could be stuck to the resultant smooth surface).
I do wonder if this was on the drawing board as a new RW model when the decision to introduce Superfast was made.
Can I ask what track it does not fit on?

What a stunning model, my one has a few paint chips but I still think its a cracking model.

Still a very nice model and in an excellent condition!

Interesting idea (but still a shame about the door outlines).
