I purchased mine during my very first UK trip in August 1991 at various Woolworth stores in London. The price there was GBP 4.99 each.

Each store had only a small quantity, and no single store had all six different models, so it was fun chasing them while exploring London by tube and on foot. The Bentley in particular was purchased in Southwark Park Road on August 27.

(Recordings of Matchbox purchases are my reminders of the trips I have taken in my life, beside pictures of cars I have encountered.)

Thinking about it, that may have been the last occasion in my life when I purchased Yesteryears at regular retail stores - the end of an era!

Is that Bob selling ?

marcel
that one is on his daughters site, both good to deal with (hope it does well)
would like to buy more from them, but as their minimum single overproduced car is $17 US , have asked them to use original rules we signed on with ( true shipping costs and 4 + cars to a box) the way they offer up , is also too long to fill a box.
alas the rest of us cant get $8 gross bids ,for exact same offerings.

Back home from the Hollidays I can now show you the trade box for the Chinese Six models and as I wrote earlier they were indeed meant for the Polish market (in fact obsolute colors when they came out)
This is from the WHITE book.

And this is my trade box.
You can see the set of 6 different models. They all have MADE IN CHINA baseplates.

Made in a production run of 5000 only, how many of the original trade boxes still exist ?

GHOSTHUNTER wrote:The 'Chinese Six' models from July 1991 consist of...
Y-2 Bentley in blue.
Y-4 Duesenburg in silver.
Y-14 ERA in blue and yellow.
Y-19 Morris Van in BRASSO trim.
Y-22 Ford Model 'A' Van in Lyons & Cherry Blossom trim.
Each one in a 'J' (maroon window box).

This set was arranged for TESCO stores at around £40 per set.

Another question. Do some of these maroon "J" window Boxes have NO country of origin? I am finding a few in this collection like that, and wonder if that is related. I am trying to match up the China baseplate models, England models, etc. with the appropriate boxes but if the boxes do not have a country of origin it can be a challenge.

Yes, they do exist without a country of origin printing. The example below is for the Y-6 Rolls-Royce Fire Engine and for my records is known as a 1984 (B) because the 1984 (A) does have a country of origin printing.

There might only be 5,000 of them so here are my three examples of the screw hole base made in China Bentley.

I am not aware of any variations on the model, all three have the smaller spare wheel securing rivet (unlike the Macau model with large and small rivets), with only a minor shade change on the box where one is more of a wine colour rather than maroon.

How do I know what models go into the boxes with no country of origin? Would they be Macau and China only ?

Thanks,
