kitchen drawer paper and card came with MOY design

I have this sheet for at least 20 years and I thought I had posted it here before but could not find the link.
It measures apron 44cm x54 and the owner at the time said it was clued into a drawer of an old kitchen to protect the wood from the cutlery. I remember a lot people did this in the 70ties but you no longer see this. The length of the Allchin is almost 9cm to give you an idea about the size of the whole sheet.
I have taken it on display on one of the conventions of the Matchbox Club Deutschland in recent years.



The reason I post it here now is that I have found something "new" using the same design in which even the models are the same size.
It is a card came and it was offered at the recent auction in Leipzig. I didn't attend but Dirk sent me a list of auction lots so I could make some bids on lots I wanted. This was the only lot won by me but the most important lot for me. I had never seen it before. Does any-one has more information ?

I’ve never seen anything like this before.
Although the auction was in Leipzig, the card set does not appear to have been intended for the German market given the text on the Joker and King cards. Are there any clues on the card obverse sides? Is there any information about where the card set or drawer liner came from or the sellers of these items?

Can't help with the wallpaper but I have found the playing cards origin.

Marcel's image of the Jolly Joker montaged over the same card on a website within the German jokers section. Sadly the web site does not offer any information on year of printing but plastic wallets for playing cards is very 1970's.

When I was a kid we had exactly the same card game with the Jolly Joker at home.
The box was different.

the set you have is made by East German playing card maker ASS (Altenburger und Stralsunder Spielkartenfabrik) - you can find their sign somewhere on the plastic folder. I know because I gave the set into the auction!
A friend of mine found this set at a local flea market near Munich many years ago, but as he was a Regular Wheel and Major Pack collector, he gave it to me as I collected MOY models!

The playing cards are a standard Rommé card set, which has two sets of poker cards (plus three Jokers), but with different colors at the rear side of the playing cards (for example one set of red cards and one set of blue cards). The set actually is complete, but it does not have the exact balance of cards with different colors.
It would have been easy to find the correct missing cards, but I never bothered about that....

I remember having played Rommé a lot of times with my grandmother back when I was a child (late 60's), and we had exactly that style of cards and Jokers!
But we had a standard plastic folder for the playing cards....

Just for the record: if it is ASS, it is not East German, in spite of the names of East German towns featured in the company name. After WW II, the company was moved to the west, and at the time when the game shown here was made, it resided in Leinfelden-Echterdingen, near Stuttgart (nowadays well known for being the location of Stuttgart's airport and fairground).

As far as I know, the acronym ASS (which incidentally also means "ace" in German) was not used in the GDR, but only in West Germany. Playing cards were, however, also made in the GDR, at the old factory in Altenburg, but the name used there was "Altenburger Spielkartenfabrik".

After the end of the GDR, in the 1990s and 2000s, there were numerous collapses, takeovers and mergers among European playing card producers, and only in 2002 the two companies were finally re-united, now belonging to the Cartamundi group based in Belgium. The name the combined company uses nowadays is "ASS Altenburger".

I really like that printed sheet - much too nice to line a drawer with!

I have a set of "TOP ASS" (insert childish snigger!) cards - top trump-style cards featuring only Rolls-Royce cars! It does indeed show the town as Leinfelden.

I stayed in Altenburg for a while in the early 90s and remember visiting the playing card museum in the castle. When I left Altenburg I received a pack of Skat cards as a souvenir, but I never did work out how to play that game.

I also have that set and always wondered why they are called 'Top Ass' rather than top class which would be more appropiate. Most of the pictures were taken at the 1977 Queen's Silver Jubille Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts Club rally which at the time was about the largest gathering of Rolls-Royce cars in one go!

Wow, this stuff reminds me of over the top sports enthusiasts who go to excess to proclaim their team affinity. I've a friend who has his college team logo on his body (a tattoo), shirts, pants, socks, hats, ties, underwear, sunglasses, car's sun protector screen, shoe laces, shoes, toilet seat, coffee cups, glass tumblers, plates, napkins, light shades, chairs, phone cover, wallet, welcome mat, rugs, picture frames, stationary, greeting cards, pens, pencils, sports bottles, sheets, pillows, blankets, and about a hundred other things I can't remember.
