Sorry Rod, a lot of scale modellers use this material. I use plasticard and it should be fairly easy to build something very similar to the self centreing hitch you show in your last picture. The corgi toys Silver Ghost in the picture below has a lot of white plasticard for the main body, wings, grille centre and parts of the steering components.
