Scammell Prime Mover with Combine Load Pre-Pro

Post by bobneumann »

In 1986 at a Matchbox USA Convention in West Point I held a Pre-Pro Yesteryear that was for sale on a vendor's table that consisted of the Y16 1929 Scammell 100 Ton Low Loader with a Combine Harvester load that was a King Size Claas Harvester with spoked wheels, instead of the normal production version of the Y-16 which had a Train Locomotive as a load. I know I have since seen photos of that set as well as photos of just the Combine Harvestor load but I cant find them now. Does anyone have these? I thought I saw the harvester alone pictured in a Schiffer book but can't find it. Thanks

Matchbox "Pickfords" Low Loader, this was made by Ken Wetton the prototype designer of Lesney Products, this was made from various models as a possibility for a future release, finished in green, black and red with Combine Harvester load which is brown.

Thanks Bob !

I guess this could have been an inspiration for the Scammel with locomotive load, but maybe not....too many differences.

Pity I did not buy it at the time that I saw it in 1986. It was priced much less than 900.
