Old collection
Old collection
Hi. I have a largish collection of boxed Matchbox 1-75 toys collected as a child. One of them, a 15 Super Atlantic Tractor with grey wheels, may, I understand have a reasonable value. It is in excellent condition, perhaps not perfectly mint, box has a bit of damage. My question is: if I were to offer it for sale, would a specialist toy auction be a better option or is eBay an acceptable place for something like this? Any help gratefully accepted.

Re: Old collection
I think it depends on what else you’ve got - if it’s a big collection in excellent condition a specialist auction could be a good choice. But if you want to sell only one or two, eBay is a good option.
Can we see a closer picture of the axle ends on both sides? It might just be reflections, but I wonder if these have the three way crimp?

Exactly the reason for leaving the original images posted above, possible 'Three Way' crimping.DrJeep wrote:Can we see a closer picture of the axle ends on both sides? It might just be reflections, but I wonder if these have the three way crimp[/url]?

My eye is untrained in these expert matters, but I would have round rather than crimped. Picture best I can do.
This is a great picture. I have resized and very slightly enhanced the contrast, however, what we really wanted to see were the small axle-ends which are now on the other side of the model, not the side we can see above.
Please can you do the other side now, thank's.

Yes, the other side is the critical one and in the first pic they look to be tampered with.iltempo27 wrote:My eye is untrained in these expert matters, but I would have round rather than crimped. Picture best I can do.

Is there a consensus on the axle ends, and does it make a difference, positive or negative, to the attractiveness as a potential acquisition, of the model please?

The small axle-ends on the left side of the model look really bad in your very first picture and I would not buy the model on that alone, but in the other picture with the model parallel to the camera they look fine and I would buy the model on that picture!
I can only go with the first picture though and say something is not right with the axle-ends.
