Introduction to Beginners' Corner
Re: Introduction to Beginners' Corner
Well, I'm a real newbie... I can't even find the button to start a new topic!
I've viewed the directions where it tells me to find the 'relevant' button on the forum or top screens, but I don't see a relevant button. ??
I have so many questions!
Thanks

Re: Introduction to Beginners' Corner
Hello
My name is Rainer and I live near Hamburg. I got my first Matchbox model (Lincoln continental 31c, still got it) for Christmas in 1968. I was passionate about the perfection of Matchbox cars right from the start. I had about 20 models in my youth, but eventually lost sight of the hobby, but never completely abandoned it. 10 years ago, I discovered my small collection well stowed again and decided to activate the hobby again. In the meantime I have about 360 RW models and 320 of them with original packaging. I also have some rarities like the red vauxhall and the VW saloon with red Superfast body and RW base plate in my collection. If desired and interest, I can also adjust some photos.
Finally, a question to the superfast experts among you. Does the pre production Superfast Mustang model in white with ivory interior thin or thick tires?
I'm looking forward to your feedback, thanks in advance
Happy Easter for you and your families.

Welcome to the forum Rainer. Could you explain the reason for your question. Do you have a pre-pro in white with ivory interior you would like to show us.
Ghosthunter.

Re: Introduction to Beginners' Corner
Thank you for the pictures Rainer.
Initially the model looks fine. Even the securing rivet at the rear of the baseplate looks OK. We have to be aware of a few facts about this model.
'The Matchbox Diecast Toys - THE FIRST FORTY YEARS' book implies the #8 Ford Mustang was converted to Superfast wheels during 1970.
Thin Superfast wheels in use from 1969 (during the conversion of some models to Superfast), to 1970 are of a solid design with a tread pattern.
During 1970, these thin wheels changed from being 'Solid' to being 'Hollow', making the mould numbers difficult to see clearly.
A wider hollow design replaced all the thin designs during 1971, so any Preproduction Superfast Ford Mustangs should have the thin wheels of a solid or hollow design. So there is some issue with your white with ivory model having the wide wheels. Is there any background story connected to this model like whre it came from etc.

Re: Introduction to Beginners' Corner
Hi Ghosthunter,
unfortunately I can not tell too much about the history of the Mustang. I had him and two other models (pre pro Lamborghini with green interior and cream cougar with white interior) last year from an elderly lady because her husband had died. He had collected old toys and I had already bought some RW from him before. The other two models look almost like new. The cougar, however, has no trailer hitch, but can not detect any breakage, so maybe a factory error. Here are a few photos of both models.
So I do not know why the Mustang has the wide tires, can not detect any manipulation on him.
I do not know if this information is helpful to you.
kind regards
Rainer
