Here is another rare model which I bought from a "trusted" seller. I bought a lot of models from same seller for about 20 years. And the seller is one of the most voted "Ebay VBD trusted sellers" in our forum
When I wrote my concerns they replied "your model was in the empty blister pack. and all three came out of the same factory case of models. we removed your model from the blister because the bubble is cracked on one end boxed it and sold it to you. as far as we know Lesney Corp. never used glue on there rivets so we are sure there is no glue on your rivets!! " . An they offered "exchange the model you have for a factory blister packed model". Please see pictures below.
First three images are the pictures from the seller,
4. pic: base of the model
5. pic: close picture of base rivet
6.-8.: Magnified pictures of base rivets. Not sure if they are tempered or not.
9-11: Strange thing around the axles
Rest pictures are what I removed from around the axle. Never saw something like that before. Actually I never looked the other models like this. It is looks like kinda plastic with paint on it. Or may be glue.
Your comments will be appreciated.
Best regards,
Burak

Re: RW 67b purple VW 1600 TL
I have bought from the same seller over the years as well. My understanding was that he purchased an entire case of these models while in Canada many years ago. I will take a look at mine when I get home. The rivets look identical to the ones in the pictures as I can remember.

Any comment? Any other explanation to what I removed around the axles other than the model is tempered and glued?

Re: RW 67b purple VW 1600 TL
If the creamy stuff is glue, why is it there. Is it holdong two halves of the axle together to get round the problem of disturbing the 'Spun Down' rivets, a perfectly normal production method for the car at this time period. If it is glue, what is the clear stuff doing and what is the clear stuff. It looks like thin clear poly plastic or 'Cling Film'. If this is the case, was the plastic film holding the two halves of the axle together like inside a tube until the glue was set hard ???
Very mysterious.
