#62 Renault 17 TL

Post by nearlymint »

Going through some models that have been stored away, found this Renault with MC front wheels and 5 spoke rear wheels. Not seen another like this one, has anyone else got one or seen one before.

Hi Jason, mine's 5-spoke front and rear.. looks like you found yourself a rare bird! Also, look out for glazing shade variations and the inverted label (if you haven't already got them).. :D

Cheers, Ken

Thanks Mathias and Alex amazing what you forget about stored away.
Ken I do not really collect these slightly later ones but any unusual ones or ones I particulrly like tend to find there way into the collection.
I am suppose to be downsizing still, but its still not working at the moment :D
All the best

Cheers Jason, I know that you've got an eye for those 'peculiar' models, an enthusiasm I share, but my wallet can't keep up! :D I'm 'upsizing' my collection, but very gradually, and at my own (slow) pace. Btw, as far as I know, the No. 62 was initially released with the "9" label, later changed to "6" by simply inverting it (maybe a 'deliberate' error?) There is also the highly prized version with the "3" label (from the Monteverdi Hai).. in fact, this model has a host of other interesting variations.

Here's Christian's page on the No. 62:

Best wishes,
Ken

The "6" label is not simply an inverted "9" label, for those labels have irregular shapes, so the "9" label is cut differently compared with the "6" label, not just inverted.

This means that it is also possible to find examples with really inverted "6" or "9" labels (i.e. simply applied upside down). I have one with an inverted "6" which looks like a "9" label at first glance but is straight at the front and slanted at the rear end. That is one I have yet to take a picture of.

BTW I have not seen Jason's wheel variation before either.

Having looked at my 17TL with the "6" label, I see what you mean.. thanks for the clarification, Christian. Indeed, the front of this label is angled slightly, to match the lip of the bonnet (hood). What an interesting situation we have here, with two different die-cut labels and their inverted variants!

Cheers, Ken

Similar to these Hot Smokers, I think Jason found the Missing Link for the Renault: -David

Thankyou all for the great info, looks like the wheels are from the Tanzara David never seen one of those (very nice). Some interesting variations out there to look out for Ken, will have to check my beaters now.
