#13d Dodge wrecker, ejector rings.
#13d Dodge wrecker, ejector rings.
This probably isn't a genuine casting issue because it's so visibly obvious that I'm sure someone else would have seen it, but I've noticed a difference in the ejector rings on the #13d Dodge wrecker, ejector rings. One's an "innie" (very hard to see, but it dishes in) and one's an "outie".

Hello kbean63
Not so much a variation but has proved to be an important feature.
The early versions of this casting has, as you describe had an “innie” and as time went by the ejector ring in your words became an “outie”
The 13d Reverse wrecker code 1 (see Nicks site ) has the “innie”(highly technical term
) or recessed ejector ring.
For the keen collector it is feature that is important for identifying or to verify some variations.
I can’t quite see enough of your model on the right to show which code but by the time the superfast version was made the “outie” was quite pronounced.

Re: #13d Dodge wrecker, ejector rings.
i have innies with decals
i have outies with decals and labels
they used more than one mold...i would think if you looked for reasons...different molds would be number one why there are innies and outies
i also have a couple and ill call them...flushies...these are where the ejector ring sits almost flush

Please use a web hosting site (like photobucket) to store pictures so you can post them here, using attachments makes it hard to view the pictures when you have to scroll to see them. Seeing comparisons of models is hard to see with attachments too.

Hello kbean63 and Yellowfoden. The innie and outie ejector rings are a new one on me. I have truthfully never even noticed they were located on top of the drive box for this model's twin winches. I have a square label Wrecker next to me that is a very recent find, and it's ejector ring is only slightly raised. Now I will be looking all mine over tomorrow to see the height progression on their ejector rings. Thank You Brad for your findings, perhaps the innies were all very early on during just the decal period? More tomorrow when we check our collections. kwakers

These ejector rings have been discussed at length (like at least 5 pages ) when the reverse wrecker influx was happening . The ejector rings became raised further and further throughout the models life. All reverse wreckers and grey hook models have inward ejectors .Beyond that they where flush and then became raised .

Lol. I wondered if anyone would get a chuckle out of that term. Since the ejector ring is literally the bellybutton of each model, it's pretty appropriate.yellowfoden said

I never noticed them before either. All my other models have it recessed so it wasn't until I pulled out the model with the really pronounced outie and looked at it next to the others that I noticed it and then it was hard to miss.kwakers wrote.

Re: #13d Dodge wrecker, ejector rings.
I have about 6 of these wreckers but not one has silver paint trim on the front. Are the ones with silver trim a lot less common than those without? It sounds like Lesney stopped doing silver trim early on for several models so I'm guessing that silver paint trim in general is somewhat rare.
