Large-Scale Flywheel Rollers

Post by Idris »

Having spent over three decades chasing a large-scale roller with flywheel, last month saw me acquire two examples. As a result, I now have one available. As you can see, the one I'm keeping (the one on the left) is in beautiful condition (except for the missing supports and canopy!).

Well done on finding a pair of flywheel rollers :D ,keep a look out now for the orange flywheel version, even harder to find than the green one(flywheel is a replacement but would still be black)

Curiously, the "Matchbox Memories" website suggests that the red/green/yellow version is rarer than the orange/black variation. However, I have seen more of the former than the latter for sale.

Must find time to change that website Idris. I agree with Dave that the orange is far rarer probably on a par with the all over tan version. They are always missing the damn roofs and supports and wish I could find a good maker of these. I had one guy who made some from an original roof I lent but then heard no more from him and these wre in white metal.
Been trying to find that casting rubber here in Oz that will take the heat of hot metal into it.

I hadn't realised that it was your website. It is my "go to" site for Early Lesney listings, knocking Nick's pages into a cocked hat.
When you do update, don't forget the yellow roller.

I( had a yellow and stripped it down !!! I did check it very carefully and was definately a repaint so no worries in the end. Somehow they never look right without their roofs and never found one with the early supports that are crossed yet ( bloody Dave has them all or Gary ) Still a few mixer colours I need and a the green crawlers but hard to find them nowadays with only the net to search on.

My yellow one also turned out to be a repaint. However, I do have a crossed-support roller with roof:
