5d Routemaster Bus

Post by Idris »

The NAMC’s “Catalog of all Series Matchbox Models” (second edition) lists as variation code 5-4B, a model with silver radiator grille trim. This appears to be otherwise identical to nick's variation code 2 (BP Longlife decal, white plastic, body 1, baseplate 1). Although this could be a late pre-production/early production run, mirroring 5c practice I think it more probable that it represents detailing for a model railway. Can any Member confirm this variation?
The AIM's “1-75 Series Regular Wheels” catalogue (second printing, 1983) highlights the possibility of mixed cream and white plastic components (I.e. upper deck cream + lower deck white, or upper deck white + lower deck cream). These appear to otherwise match Nick's variation code 17 (BP ViscoStatic label, body 2, baseplate 1).
Stannard does not list any variation not already catalogued by Nick, and completely ignores all the 'News of the World' variations.
Houghton provides details for the Peadrax version: white plastic, body 2, baseplate 4. His variation table also contains an error, with variation code 5d-17 being identical to variation code 5d-21.
U.K. Matchbox examined the model in vol. 1 no. 7 (Sep. '77) p106 (reprinted vol. 4 no. 3 (Aug. '80) p88), but no variations not already recorded by Nick were identified.

.
I have not seen it. I think that more probably is the Hugh´s theory that it represents detailing for a model railway.

This 5d bus is the Stannards code 11 but instead of a White interior it has a Cream interior. This was sent to me by Dick Kwak (Kwakers.)

He sent me 8 unlisted regular wheel variations, he was a great contributor to this forum. RIP Dick Kwak.
