That's not what I said! There are people here who've posted enough information on the open forum to trace them easily - I don't think you're one of them, though I do know your first name, your son's name, your age, what you do, what you look like and the city where you live. As a moderator, you can work all that out for me too (it's ok - I trust you!). The point about the NEC is the same point about people posting photographs from exotic locations while they're still on holiday: it might be an open invitation to an empty house.

I'm going to give up making comments on the internet security thing because it's obviously not going down well, and it was only a passing remark anyway to remind people to be careful.

I totally agree with Dr. Jeep. Some people post as he says, on Twitter, FB and other places making comments. If you are looking for a good job then a prospective employer nowadays can quite easily do a search ( Google etc) and come up with a lot of details about a person. You may have some views that do not fit in with their requirements and so you could lose that high profile job you really wanted. In this digital age we all leave a footprint wherever we go as nothing is deleted from the net. Truly in this age information is power and you only have to look at the antics of Facebook lately to see what goes on and what info they sell.
I'm not sure that a photo or first name would make any real difference on this site but who knows and if people feel safer then so be it but the choice should be there of what to fill in your profile or not. Whether a burglar come hacker wants to glean your info from here when you are at the NEC and then come round and steal your goodies seems a bit far fetched but people who have posted on their FB pages that they are going away for 2 weeks holiday have been robbed but then there is a lot more info on there than here.
So really I would have to get your name - Joe Bloggs, and you live in Birmingham - now search on those 2 and I come up with ? search the electoral roll for same 2 - 6 Joe Bloggs but could get 6 addresses I suppose and go round to all to see who is out that morning assuming you have left no one else in the house and then steal your Matchbox collection. Sounds a bit daft but suppose it could happen if they were desperate.

Glen You are quite correct to remind us to be careful about what we post online. On this occasion I left my wife at home so god help any mofo who might have seen my home as an easy target lol. Nice to meet you by the way!
