Anyone airbrush nail polish onto vehicles?

Post by FarAwayLook »

While repainting a vehicle, I found that the Vallejo grey primer, 5 coats of Vallejo acrylic and 2 coats of Rustoleum Clear Gloss came off easily after three days of curing. I was masking off the body paint, with low-tack tape, to detail the tail lights and voila! all the paint started to flake off like a winter blizzard. Bum!

After a medicinal brew and chocolate biccy had calmed my nerves, I realised I needed something tougher. Spying some amazing colours on the nail polish display stand at my local supermarket checkout I snagged a couple to try. I found that, even with aggressive thinning, my Iwata Neo cn 0.35 nozzle was struggling to pass any paint at all. I have yet to try my cheap KKMoon 0.5 nozzle brush. But I was wondering if any of you were already happily painting away with Rimmel? If only for 'personal use'. lol :)

I would get 0.2, 0.3, 0.4 & 0.5 mm nozzles and experiment with each one to find the best thinner ratio and best nozzle for each brand of nail varnish. If you apply more than one color to a model, stick with nail varnish as it's very risky to mix paint and nail varnish on the same model. Also, there is a thread on how to mask models without using tape.
It might be time to start my "Bucket List."

I just came across the thread the other day and I think it was titled something like "why won't this work" or something close to that. The part about alternative masking options comes towards the end of the thread.
