11d Mercedes scaffold truck labels

Post by DrJeep »

I know these two are both pretty worn, but I think there may be two different coloured labels: cream with red ink on the left, and white with dark red ink on the right. Or is the one on the left just faded? They're the same on the other side of each lorry.

maybe different quality of label or "inks" used.
if the other sides match you wouldn't think equal fading :|

Yes, I think they really are different. It seems to be a known Superfast variation - these two sold just before the New Year.

Perhaps one of the Superfast specialists knows more?

Here are two comparison photos of three mint models
The two RW models have seen very little daylight since new as kept in their boxes.
The SF has spent the last 30 years in a SF display case with one side exposed to light, although I do turn them periodically. It is slightly pinker than the RW labels.

One of the RW (bottom right both photos) has a cream/red label on one side but on the other is the white/ red.

In taking the photos the camera settings were kept the same and so was position of both models and camera and photos only a few of seconds apart to ensure same camera conditions.

The 3rd photo is of a very much loved and played with SF,( check out those wheels :o :) ) and the label (same both sides) is cream/red and were it not for a similar mint label on one of the RW I could have put this down to grubby little fingers doing their best to create flat spots on the wheels and contaminating the label in the process.

I wonder if the colour difference is due to the colour of the card stock used for the labels.

These models of mine were pretty closely examined when we did the variations review of the 11d Mercedes but we failed to note label differences at that time, I must admit I did not compare any SF at that time.

I think it is worth putting an update to that thread with a link, let me know if you want me to do the honours.

Bert

Thanks for confirming the colours, Bert (and for showing that Superfast Mercedes - those wheels really are play worn!). I'll add a link to the missing variations thread.
