Thanks Glenn,DrJeep wrote:That's a really interesting question. From the listing photograph it looked like the base had signs of black:yellowfoden wrote:Given that this is an early release, some are subject to bases appearing black (not painted).
What is the base like on this one please
It almost looks like it's a different model, but it's not - the most obvious sign is the mark inside the tipper, level with the rear rivet, which you can see on both pictures. The base is a little sticky, so I think the apparently darker patches must have been the result of using flash. Anyway, it's entirely silver without any black at all.
These are really interesting comparison photos. Years ago while chasing some so called black bases I found on two occasions experiencing a similar thing, turning out to be almost clean bases and no sign of black which were evident in auction photos.
Fortunately my collecting priority these days is on casting features and not colour.

Thanks, Peter. It was a lucky find!Ergomatic wrote:Glenn, it is beautiful. Congrats.
I was a little worried by the patchy black appearance, so I was pleased to see how clean it really is!yellowfoden wrote:These are really interesting comparison photos.
