THANKS for your tips and suggestions... I'll definitely look for a diamond deburring bit. Marty's method works, but you can easily bugger things up, as I did when I rounded over the ends of a pair of axle pins. I've also learned that I need to PREPARE the axle ends if I'm going to peen them with a hammer. I tried pressing the ends in a drill press, and didn't have much luck. So I tried to peen them with a hammer, but since I hadn't prepared the ends, the steel was much more resistant to reforming. My preferred method of hammer peening leaves marks that definitely show that the axles have been altered, so that's one less way that folks can claim I'm trying to create a forgery.

I'll also edit my painting post to show that the paint failure was MY fault for not recoating properly.
