So, the 24c Rolls Royce. First the easy questions:
Early, hub cap wheels, no tow guide or patent number, large axle ends both on left, small rivet (I think).No strengthening inside rear wheel arches. Roof rivet is unpressed.
I think the boot opening has the larger gap: Now, the "structure behind". I'm really struggling here, but this is the best I can do. So, what do you think? It's certainly an early one, but is it special?

Thanks. I was pleased to find it, especially as it has the three areas on the rear painted in silver. My other crimped-axle 9c has only the central hose connectors in silver. It's also a brighter red colour. I think crimped-axle 9cs are relatively difficult to find. The crimps are very short, almost as though the axle length was planned for rounded ends from the beginning.Idris wrote:A particularly good find in my opinion.

Here's the Unimog. The back right wheel was poorly formed, so the tyre probably never fitted well. The 4 of "49" is very faint compared to the rest of the number.

Thanks for the 24c pictures Glen.
From what you describe and what I can see in the pictures you seem to have secured an early example but not the earliest. The boot hinge apertures is the key detail here.
On Nick's code guide this area is described as SMALLER GAP and LARGER GAP. The earliest examples have the LARGER GAP but this was quickly changed to the SMALLER GAP during the production of the darker pink models (earliest issues can be classed as light pink).
On your picture I have highlighted the area which constitutes to the LARGER GAP.

My yellow lines show (not to scale), the amount of metal missing on the first issues to create the larger gap on the boots back wall surface.
I can also see yours does not have the hinge brace which is difficult to see so again on your picture I have drawn it in green.
The base rivet is a hard one to determin until you get both small and large together and my initial impression is that yours is the large one.
Regards the "structure behind", this angled brace is on every example of my 27 (going on 30!) versions of this model.
So, it appears not to be special as it stands, just a nice early example.

Just found this picture on my phone which I took when replying to Glen's #24c Silver Shadow post above.

30 versions of the same model which takes into account light pink, dark pink, cherry red, axle-ends, tyre sizes (two), soft and hard suspension (achieved by using diferent thickness plastic strips resting on the axles), glazing circles (above the front seats, level or staggered) gloss, or satin base colours, boot hinge aperture size, base rivet diameter, with and without 'Pat' number, towing guide application (part one and part two), the boot hinge brace (not easy to see until somebody points it out!) and the brace inside the rear wheel arches...think that is most of the details.
The few models you see on the back row are duplicates of the front row example.
Looking at all these I find it hard to believe there could be any more variations to find but you never know until you find it and compare with what is already in the collection.
