Dealer Display Help
Dealer Display Help
I purchased a Matchbox Dealer Display. As per Charlie Macks book, '' 1965 M-26 metal display with sliding glass doors. Holds all 75 miniatures as well as 15 King Size in a stair step manner.'' This sounds like what I have, but I am not sure. Mine is missing the doors, and I would like to see a picture of one of these displays, before I try to get new glass for the doors. Can't find any information or pictures, only what I read in Charlies book.
Thanks
Bob

Re: Dealer Display Help
I have good photos of that one but have to find them and set them.
If it is the display I think it is, it is a rare display, how did you find it.

Re: Dealer Display Help
Here is a picture of what I have. I just found a picture of this of this Display on Steve Beckett's site in a 1965 Dealer Catalog. Not shown in 1966 catalog. Matchbox were 49 cents in 1965, but went to 55 cents in 1966, according to the catalogs. This must be why my display has the 1966 updated price on it. Wish it was a better picture, but at least I know what I have. Also included a picture of the models I bought along with the Display, nothing too exciting, but I did get another smooth bed Alvis, and a red Mustang, all very cheap.

Re: Dealer Display Help
That is an unusual display unit being finished in silver-grey with only the header board showing some corporate colour. It also looks as if a perspex cover may have been fitted when new to help keep dust away so that is something that could be made and put back on.

Marcel,
I wish I had found the Display that you posted the link to, what a find that would be!
Kevin,
According to a what I have found, this Display should have glass sliding doors. I would still like to see a good picture of another one, so I could checkout the doors better, before I make what I think should be on there.
Thinking back, this is the type of Display I remember in stores as a young lad. I remember looking over the Display very carefully, then you would tell the person behind the counter which one you wanted. They would then give you your model packaged in the box, and your Mom or Dad could pay for it!

Re: Dealer Display Help
It appears in the 1964 and 65 trade catalogues but does not show the cover so yes, a couple of glass panes or as I mention a perspex panel would benefit the unit.

This image does show a double channel at the top so two panels were clearly used and as you say glass is more likely given the date.

Kevin,
I found the 64, and 65 dealer catalog pictures also, wish they were better and in color. I also noticed that the model line up was not quite the same for 64, and 65, as pictured in the catalogs. I walked by this case several times at the show, before my wife said I needed this for my upcoming birthday present. I wish it was only $25.00 like the one in the catalog! I wasn't going to buy it, but she forced me into it !!!!!
