PLASTIC TEST SHOTS

Post by MOKOSEX »

I have no history with these plastic test shots but my guess they were to test the die when new, researching these on the net i also saw a plastic test shot of the bedford cf,looks like they are quite rare,
luckily i just happen to have a citreon model to hand to compare with the plastic test shot.

I am not aware of Corgi making a Bedford CF which is a medium sized Van to compete against the Ford Transit so I think you might mean a Bedford TK truck cab unit as shown below.

We also have evidence of Lesney using plastic test shots.

Interesting tread,i remember it now because they plastic used on the truck reminded me of the glow range, when i worked in a foundry the nearest thing i saw like this was a new die arriving to make ashtrays with a hard wax first shot on it,so it could be that these plastic shots are the result of toolmakers testing their tools before sending them to the foundry.

I have an example of the plastic Beetle body shell, bought at a toy fair several years ago. The seller described them as being test shots. I remember he had an SM as well, and they weren't expensive, but I preferred the Beetle. I thought the plastic bodyshell would look quite nice mounted on a baseplate and with seats and windows fitted, but I didn't want to remove the sprues, although on my example they have been folded inside the body.

I think the Convoy showed there is much later (late eighties) I don't Lesney used plastic test shots in the early 70ties.

I left the UK in early '87. However, I saw similar plastic test shots of the "big rig" cabs at Philip Bowdidge's sometime before I left.

yes that was about the period of those Convoy models. Would have to check but think the 1st one was around 1984.
